Description

Community-Based Research Ethics Workshop at the Wellesley Institute

Join the Toronto Community Based Research Network for a morning of learning at the Wellesley Institute. The topic of interest will be community-based research ethics.

Community-based research (CBR) is important for engaging those most affected by health inequities. But along with CBR comes questions about how to ethically examine issues affecting diverse communities, some of whom may be experiencing various forms of marginalization.

This session will provide an overview of “Improving the Accessibility of Research Ethics Boards for HIV Community-based Research in Canada” and present select study findings related to the top ten ethical issues identified by over 50 Canadian HIV CBR academic and community practitioners. Workshop participants will learn how to better navigate the research ethics process and will come away with tools for effectively interacting with research ethics boards.

This event will be of interest to CBR practitioners, students and those working in community organizations who want to gain a deeper understanding of the ethical issues present in CBR.

Confirmed speakers include:

Sarah Flicker - Associate Professor, Faculty of Environmental Studies, York University; Ontario HIV Treatment Network Scholar

Sarah Switzer - PhD Student, Faculty of Environmental Studies, York University; University Without Walls Fellow
